In The Therapy Room

You're here because you're looking to start counselling. Perhaps it's your first time or maybe you want to start over with a new therapist. Here is a little insight into how I work, that will hopefully give you an idea of what to expect in the therapy room.

I'm a relational psychodynamic therapist, and I offer an open-minded space where we can work together to make sense of the issues you bring. I aim to not pathologise, and to take care in understanding your individual perspective. I am interested in the ways in which our environment affects us, and so I pay attention to the impact of class, racialisation, disability, migration status, gender, and sexuality.

When I'm working with people, I try to de-mystify the process of psychotherapy. Psychodynamic work often involves looking to our earlier life experiences. I believe that by paying attention to the events and patterns of the past along with the present, we gain greater understanding of ourselves and how we relate to others. I am interested in language, and believe that our words have power and meaning. What is most important to me is to understand those I work with as unique individuals.

I work with a broad range of individuals, and I have specific experience working with the complex issues that arise for gender diverse individuals, queer people, and sex workers. I ascribe to labels insofar as they are useful tools to help us name our experience.

I have two locations - one in Peckham and the other in London Bridge. I also offer online sessions.

MA Psychodynamic Psychotherapy & Counselling at Goldsmiths

I qualified with a PG Dip in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling from Goldsmiths College. I regularly undertake CPD to ensure that I am up to date with issues that are relevant to my client base. As part of my training I completed a placement working in a London based charity with queer and gender diverse clients. Post-qualification I ran a peer-lead free counselling service for sex workers in a charity setting.

I am an accredited member of The National Counselling Association and I am working towards BACP accreditation.

Sessions

It can be daunting to start working with a new therapist. I offer an extended introduction session at a reduced fee. This is so that we can take our time to begin the process, and so you can decide if I'm the right therapist for you.

These sessions are 90 minutes in length. The cost of this session is fixed at £50.

Perhaps you're dealing with something specific, and you feel that short-term counselling will be the most appropriate option for you. I offer 12-week terms of counselling experiencing a variety of issues or navigating changes in their situation. I have a small number of low-cost places available for clients of limited means subject to availability.

Short-Term Counselling

For many, issues they struggle with are complex, interwoven, and difficult to articulate. Maybe you find yourself stuck in a cycle you can't break out of. Perhaps you'd like to understand yourself better, and what explore your unconscious. Open ended work allows you the time to explore what's going on for you in depth, and hopefully together we can make sense of things. I have a limited number of sliding scale places for long-term work.

My fee for in-person sessions is £90-140. Working on a sliding scale like this allows me to offer low cost spots for those that would be otherwise unable to afford therapy.
